11 Unique Ways to Propose to Your Partner \\ Miami Engagement Photographer

Ah, you’ve decided to take the next step in your relationship; a marriage proposal.

If you are ready to propose to your partner, there are many things to consider when preparing and planning for your proposal. Before we get into that, I want to stress a few key elements to preparing for your proposal. These are only highly suggested recommendations, but hey, take what resonates with you.

Pre-Proposal Planning

  1. Make sure you and your partner are on the same page. The last thing we need is you putting all this planning, hard work, and effort in only to receive a big fat NO in the end. Make sure you and your partner have had conversations about the future.

  2. Discuss how your partner would like to be proposed to. You don't want all your time and effort to go into a proposal that wouldn't make your partner feel comfortable.

  3. For goodness sakes, PLEASE talk about the type of style ring your partner would prefer. I have seen many Yeses to the proposal, but No to the ring. Very tough conversation to have!

  4. Enlist family and friends for a straightforward approach. Have your friends help you, speak to your partner’s closest family and friends (ones who won’t ruin the surprise) for ideas on how to propose. See who on your friend list can help you make this extra special. Maybe you know a chef, planner, or crafty person. Source your friends. They have insight on the two of you as individuals and a couple and can help make this a proposal to remember.

  5. Hire a planner for a grand proposal. A planner can help you brainstorm some creative ideas and access the resources needed to get the task done!

Without further ado,

11 Unique Ways to Propose to your Partner

Private Marriage Proposals

  1. Custom Puzzle/Arts and Crafts

Okay, so I am extra, and I think this should be a little challenging. This idea is for my puzzle lovers! Get a custom puzzle of you and your spouse. Make it a 600–1000-piece puzzle. Yes, I said 600-1000 pieces. This puzzle will probably take your partner a couple of days, but when the puzzle is finally complete, pop the question.

Another suggestion would be creating a paint night for you and your partner. Be sure that as you paint, both of you cannot see each other's canvases. In the end, reveal your painting, asking your partner to marry you. A labor of love

  2. Create a Milestone Movie or Create a Secret Video

Invite your partner to a personal movie night, the deluxe experience! Hire a private chef to cater as you pop in your carefully crafted movie. I would suggest doing a video of your milestones as a couple, what makes your partner unique to you, or creating a secret video of the days leading up to the proposal filming your clueless partner.

  3. Create an Outdoor Experience. Go on a Picnic!

Curated picnics are the hottest activity. I would know, we mentioned it in our Creating Intimacy: Top 5 Date Night Ideas in the South Florida, Tri-County Area blog. I would coordinate with a company that hosts curated pictures and helps you plan the proposals for this idea. Don't be afraid to make it memorable for you and your partner by having their favorite meal, drinks, and dessert.

  4. Incorporate the Proposal into You and Your Partner's Favorite Activity

I saw the cutest proposal on TikTok, and you could genuinely tell that they understood their partner. This couple were book lovers. So, her partner set up a scavenger hunt where she had to find specific books using the book location and call number. Very cute and thoughtful! Their favorite activity turned into a scavenger hunt. Screams romantic!!!

  5. Art Gallery

If your partner is an art lover, I suggest proposing in an art gallery or museum. This idea may take some coordination with the gallery or museum in advance. My suggestion for this proposal is to incorporate the proposal in the gallery. See if they will allow you to randomly put-up pictures of you and your partner throughout an exhibit. As you and your partner walk through, watch as they notice the photos.

Or, You could also rent a venue out for the evening to put up pictures and create your personal museum of love. Then boom! Will you create art with me and make this life a masterpiece? Will you marry me?!?!?! I know, I'm smooth.

  6. Escape Room Proposal

Take your partner on a fun date to an escape room. Unbeknownst to them, they will not only be solving the clues to escape but also reveal their proposal!

Public Marriage Proposals

  1. Relive your 1st Date or How You Met

Reliving you and your partner's first date is a charming, romantic, and intimate way to propose to your partner. It shows that you remember a moment in time that meant the most to you both. And, if that isn't your 1st date. I have another trick up my sleeve.

But let's continue! Some suggestions for reliving your first date are to contact the venue. Then, you send your lovely bride to be a cute invite to a date night. Once there, try to recreate at least one or two memories you both remember from that night, and when the moment is right, pop the question!

Reliving how you and your partner met. This one is my favorite! Maybe it's because this is sort of how my husband proposed to me. We relived the moment we met and incorporated our children. We met in high school after lunch. Taking it back to the good old days made it genuinely thoughtful and unique to us and our love story.

    Cute, I know!

  2. Flash Mob

Are you and your partner dancers or love to dance? Then this is the proposal idea for you! Have the flash mob somewhere unique to you and incorporate your partner's family and friends to make this special. Keep the dance routine simple and fun so everyone can join along for your big day.

  3. Scavenger Hunt

This is an oldie, but a goodie! This idea never goes out of style. Make a list of a few unique places for you and your partner. Then write out some corresponding clues. Once you've completed the clues, enlist your partner's closest friends to make sure it all goes smoothly, or drop off the hints yourself and talk to all the staff. Now, let's take it a step further. Instead of having your partner scavenger to both your favorite places, have them spend the day going to different locations to get ready for their final scavenger hunt destination. Not only will your partner have had a relaxing and pampered day,

  4. A Cappella Performance

This one doesn't require you to sing, don't worry. Unless you can, that would be extra icing on the cake, but I am a sucker for a good musical or singing group. Music is also my 6th Love Language. It's a thing, trust me. For this idea, I would suggest having an A Capella group sing all your partner's favorite songs or maybe you and your partner's favorite song. Alright, so I am going to jazz it up even more. Ask the group to create a melody, and the final piece is them singing any popular wedding song. Then and only then do you pop that question!

  5. Selfies of Love

Does your partner LOVE to take Instagram-ready photos? Then take them to a selfie museum where a photographer can follow you both around while you take cute pictures and create some sweet memories. Your photographer will be there to take all the photos, and they'll capture your proposal.

There's no one-size-fits-all approach to proposing because every person, and every couple, is different. I can admit some of the proposal ideas aren't outlandish, BUT what makes each proposal special and truly unique is that you and your partner created a magical moment for which you hired Nine One Four Photography + Film.
